Originally slated for release on 7" in 2006 but ultimately shitcanned at the last minute due to lack of funds for the pressing, Heavy River is proud to present "Scientific Thoughts b/w Neighboring States" as it's first release. Birch & Rowan inhabit their own weird little corner of the free-form music space with sections of long winded jams and musical fragments stitched together to form (as they once called it) "frankenstein compositions".
The A-Side "Scientific Thoughts" is a pure head trip. Alternating back and forth between free jazz organ jams and spacey soundscapes, this track evokes the feeling of driving though the night and picking up faint transmissions from weird distant radio stations.
The feeling carries over to the B-Side, the airy and etherial "Neighboring States" which evokes the day dreams of the morning after of driving through the night.
These two tracks (along with a third track to be released on an upcoming comp) represent the entire collected works of Birch & Rowan.
